Spice Souk
Spicing it up in Dubai

So after being here a couple of years I have finally made it to the Spice Souk.
I guess it takes having an overseas guest to get you out doing the touristy things. However this is really far from touristy..by Dubai standards. These hidden gems exist in the back streets of old Dubai, they are tucked in back alley's far from the big malls that consume this city.

The Gold Souk is just around the corner from the Spice Souk. It's quite amazing to see all the jewels & gold on display here. Personally all that 24carot gold is not my thing, but I can appreciate the amazing detail & craftmanship that goes it creating each brilliant piece.
So next week it's the textile souk for me..ahhhh now I could get lost there for days.

Childhood memories come alive a christmas time.
Oh how the memories of my childhood came flooding back to me this week. We (my husband, son & I) where wandering the paved streets of Vienna, when we turn a corner and there they were. Tree's, big tree's dripping with coloured lanterns. A truly divine sight. This has been a really powerful memory I have carried with me most my life. I'm really not to sure if it was something I personally witnessed as a child or if it is from a dream I had when I was young or even if it's an image from a childhood book. But this image sure did transport me back to being a very small child. I felt like I was in the most magical place. A place where joy & innocence dwell. I just sat and watched as my son danced under these lit trees and created his own memories and new ones for me.

a new world is emerging...oooohh laa laa!

OK so it has only been a couple of weeks but a new world is opening up for me. I have decided (after decades of deliberation..WHY??? I do not know) to start studying French. And it is every bit as fantastic as I imagined it would be. OUI...why did i wait so long? It's a funny thing deliberation. I have experienced it several times in my life. Several times that were significant that is. Yes I deliberate over the mundane things in my life & the daily goings on but only a couple of times in my life have I really noted a significant deliberation..Studying French has been one of them,a along with completing my Interior Decorating & Design diploma.(that one is next on my list to be completed).
Three weeks into my study of this beautiful language and I ask myself..Why have you waited so long? A new world. a new way of seeing things is opening up to me..AMAZING!! This beautiful tongue is engulfing me..how could one not become romantic as the words flow." je suis femme au foyer"..my god I have never felt so feminine until I spoke these words (I'm sure to a native French speaker that sound hiliarious). In english to state that one is a housewife almost has a demeaning tone to it(my mindset I know)...It's unfortunately because the role is so crucial & honourable. But say it in french and it takes on a whole new role "FEMME AU FOYER". I'm seeing awesome & inspiring women. Heads held high..proud ! Wednesday, August 12, 2009
Missing Mother Nature
Living life in the Middle East sure has an influence on one's creative juices. I personally find there is no way to avoid it. It shows in the finer things like the henna design and then with the masculine colour palette. And for some reason I seem to be really drawn to BROWN'S..maybe I'm missing 'Mother Nature' and her bounty of precious DIRT.
